Of course, this shouldn’t be taken literally, and you shouldn’t scrub your face for exactly 30 minutes. What is meant here is that skin cleansing deserves as much attention as makeup application.

Japanese skincare always begins with thorough and gentle cleansing of the face. At every step in the beauty sphere, the importance of proper cleansing and washing is emphasized. Sometimes it seems that for the Japanese, washing the face is as important as washing hands. Any self-respecting line of cosmetics starts with products for deep and thorough washing/cleansing.

….if you spend 30 minutes applying makeup, you should spend the same amount of time removing it and cleansing your skin.

How many times a day should you cleanse the skin of the face and neck?

You should cleanse the skin not only in the evening but also in the morning.

In the morning, we remove excess sebum that has accumulated overnight, as well as any remnants of nighttime skincare, preparing it for daytime care. The better the skin is cleansed in the morning, the smoother the makeup will lay.

In the evening, we cleanse the skin of all types of impurities: makeup, sebum, urban fine dust (and not just fine dust, there is such coarse dust flying around in cities!), thus preparing the skin for nighttime care. The better we cleanse the skin, the deeper all subsequent nighttime care will penetrate.

At the same time, it is important to understand the difference between morning and evening cleansing.

Morning cleansing

Morning cleansing is a light and gentle procedure, for which gentle amino acid products or hybrid, non-foaming gels are ideal. Just splashing warm water on your face in the morning is not an option if we want to have beautiful skin with tightened pores. Leaving nighttime skincare and sebum on the skin causes our pores to gradually stretch, and the sebum oxidizes and darkens – the result: dark spots and occasional single inflammations.

Recommended products for morning skin cleansing:

Evening cleansing

Evening cleansing is usually two-phase. The rule becomes stricter if you are a fan of “good tone” – read this in both a literal and figurative sense. In general, since healthy and beautiful skin in the long term implies the presence of SPF in daytime care every day and year-round, two-phase evening skin cleansing is not a periodic procedure by intuition, but a daily beauty ritual.

1. Makeup removal and cleansing the skin of impurities

The first step is cleansing (makeup removal, removing makeup and dust?). Most often, this step involves products in the form of oils, balms, or gels. Personally, I love gels and balms the most. Especially balms that gently melt on the skin, it’s such a pleasure to apply them❤️. But whatever cleansing product you use (makeup removal wipes don’t count), the application rule is always the same: apply them with dry hands on dry skin of the face and neck, massage a little (more intensively in the T-zone, starting with it), add a little water to emulsify the product, massage a bit more, and rinse thoroughly with water.

Why is it important to cleanse the skin before washing? Because this method cleanses the skin more thoroughly, and the subsequent foaming wash puts less strain on it.

There are hybrid cleansing products that do not require further washing with a soap product. As a rule, they are highly valued by owners of dry and sensitive skin. The application rules for such products are the same as for others: with dry hands on dry face.

Apply the cleansing product with dry hands on dry skin of the face and neck, emulsify with water, and rinse off.

Universal cleansing products for any skin:

2. Washing

The second step is washing (removing residues of makeup and cleansing product). Almost always, the second step involves a foaming product: foam, paste, soap, gel, milk, powder.

Each product has its own nuances in use; choose the texture based on personal preferences and the purpose of the product, as the theory that soap dries out the skin is long outdated – the Japanese market now offers even special soap options based on amino acids for dry skin. Exceptions are enzyme powders for washing, which are not recommended for daily use, but only as needed to exfoliate the skin a couple of times a week.

It might seem that there is nothing to think about: take the product, lather it on your face, rinse it off, and that’s it – the face is clean. But no, there are several important nuances here.
So, how to properly wash your face with soap according to the Japanese beauty industry:

            Step 1

Thoroughly whip the soap product with a small amount of water to obtain a thick and fluffy foam.
It is very important to make exactly thick, fluffy, and dense foam, as in a thoroughly whipped product, the concentration of surfactants per unit volume is much lower than in the product itself. And in this form, the foaming product puts much less strain on the skin, does not dry it out, and does not irritate it. On this topic, the Japanese even conducted research and proved through numbers and in vivo tests the gentle effect of the soap product on the skin when thoroughly whipped. According to the study, the product should be 84% saturated with air, and in this state, it is the least burdensome for our skin.

How to check if the foam has the right consistency? It’s simple: it should be about the size of a lemon and very elastic, so that you can form balls and cones from it, and it won’t spread. Achieving such an effect is much easier if you use a special net for whipping (see here). Literally a minute and your “lemon?” is ready?.

https://azimka.shop/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/WhatsApp-Video-2022-05-13-at-12.25.11.mp4

Important point: hands must be clean. If there are residues of oil or other products on your hands, the foam will not foam well.

            Step 2

On the previously moistened skin of the face and neck (and after the cleansing product, the skin is just moist), apply our “lemon.” This is the most pleasant moment, in my opinion.

So: very gently apply and gently massage the skin with the foam, starting from the oiliest area (the T-zone).

Recommendation: wash for 10 seconds. This is the “golden mean.” During this time, the product will have enough time to cleanse the skin well without harming it or removing the protective mantle.
When washing with thick and fluffy foam, you do not touch the skin of the face with your hands. The foam works independently, gently removing impurities. Then, carefully rinse the foam with warm water, not hot, but specifically warm 35-38°C. And also! when washing in the shower, do not direct the water stream directly onto your face. The water pressure can harm our delicate skin??.

Reading all this, many may think at first glance: “what’s the point of using this gentle foam, I like it to feel squeaky clean.” This is a very common opinion. However, if you first cleanse the skin of makeup and impurities with a cleansing product, then the gentle foam option will just wash away the residues of dissolved “impurities” from the skin and nothing more. But if you enthusiastically spread a pea-sized amount of foam across your face, intensifying the lathering on the skin’s surface, then not only will your makeup be washed away, but the entire protective layer of the skin will be removed, leading to dryness, acne, and other problems. And sometimes the makeup doesn’t wash off and remains in the pores, gradually clogging and expanding them.

            Step 3

And the final step is drying (wiping). Here, as in the previous stages, it is important to do everything as gently as possible. It is best to remove excess moisture with a clean towel or paper towels. This should be done with gentle pressing movements, and under no circumstances should you rub your face with a towel.

And of course, don’t forget about the hygiene of our helpers and wash our towels more often?

The evening skin cleansing stage is very important. Remember that all subsequent nighttime care (lotions, serums, creams, masks, etc.) becomes much more effective and has a greater chance of penetration if we apply it to well-cleansed and gently washed skin.

Soap products for maximum fluffy foam:

Special soap products for additional skin polishing (can be used as a foaming mask 1-2 times a week or as needed by the skin):

Universal cleansing products that do not require subsequent soap washing (if desired, you can also wash again). Very delicate, ideal for sensitive and dry skin, as well as for morning cleansing of any skin type:

Well, that’s it.
